The Systems and Operations Assurance Department (SOAD) is the source of expertise in Operations and Facilities Engineering, Product and Process Assurance, Quality (QA) and Manufacturing Engineering to our corporate customers. SOAD provides an array of technical capabilities that support our customers in assuring the availability, readiness and success of ground assets/services required to meet the needs of the national security and commercial space enterprises.

We have a current need for motivated civil/structural engineer to join our high-performing team in solving some of today's most difficult Facilities and Infrastructure problems and help evolve our capabilities in meeting the technical challenges of tomorrow. This position requires an innovative, decisive individual who works effectively in a highly collaborative, team-based environment who can set goals/expectations and effectively execute. We are seeking experienced candidates with the ability to work within multi-disciplinary project teams proficient in all phases of Facility-related project design and controls throughout the Facility life cycle, including the requirements/concept design development, construction, and operations & maintenance/sustainment phases.

Work Model:

This position is Hybrid with 4 days on site in either El Segundo, CA, Chantilly VA, or Albuquerque, NM

What You'll Be Doing

  • You will be self-motivating and able to work without appreciable direction from management with overall responsibility for project engineer and project administrator duties directly relating to each project.
  • Utilize and/or develop and implement advanced analytical techniques to evaluate civil/structural systems and optimize overall systems performance.
  • Interpret third-party geotechnical reports and apply the results to verify and optimize complex foundation and soil support systems.
  • Independently execute the detailed analysis, design, and assessment of complex civil/structural facilities and their foundation systems.
  • Originate and validate complex civil/structural engineering deliverables, such as calculations, specifications, material requisitions, cost estimates, and facility design criteria.
  • Deliver independent, data-driven technical reports and recommendations to management and customers through effective verbal and written communication.
  • Review and provide Engineering Review Comments to technical documents with/from third-party designers, engineering disciplines, procurement, and construction contractors.
  • Employ a rigorous and methodical approach to problem solving and identifying root cause of facility system failures and problems encountered during construction.
  • Assist in constructability reviews.
  • Support construction by dispositioning field change requests and nonconformance reports, performing construction observations, reviewing construction submittals, and witnessing/evaluating field testing, as required.
  • Lead and/or participate in technical discussions with clients, suppliers, construction contractors, etc.
  • Act as a mentor or coach for early career engineers and designers.
  • Travel to customer and/or government facilities while representing the company and department in a professional manner, including in and outside the continental United States.

What You Need to be Successful

Minimum Requirements for Project Leader:

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in civil engineering, structural engineering, or related engineering degree from an accredited college or university
  • 8 years of experience in the civil/structural engineering design/construction for building, transportation, and infrastructure structures.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) license (current)
  • Thorough knowledge of engineering deliverables, such as construction documents and material requisitions and of construction methods for industrial infrastructure and their foundation systems.
  • Self-Starter with proficient time management skills to multi-task and manage several projects simultaneously and deliver results within established time boundaries.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Working knowledge and applications of current commercial building codes and regulations (e.g., IBC, NFPA, AASHTO, ASTM, AISC, ACI, ASCE, etc.)
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or analogous computer-aided drafting programs
  • Proficiency with civil/structural analytical software (SAP2000, STAAS, RISA, PCASE, etc.)
  • Proficient in Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Project, and Visio
  • Ability and willingness to travel (Domestic/International)
  • Ability to obtain/maintain TS/SCI clearance which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.

How You Can Stand Out

It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:

  • Master's degree in civil engineering, structural engineering,or advanced degree in related engineering field
  • Proficient in the use of Mathcad, MATLAB, or similar software.
  • Experience performing Value Engineering, Constructability Reviews, Safety Reviews, and O&M Reviews.
  • Demonstrated experience in flexible and rigid paving design to accommodate wheel loadings for heavy vehicles (AASHTO).
  • Working knowledge of US defense industry facility acquisition and operations practices
  • Working knowledge of US Department of Defense (DoD) Unified Facility Criteria (UFC) documents
  • Experience in the geotechnical and structural design for Nuclear Quality and Safety Environment.
  • Experience with the design, construction, operations and maintenance of federal, military and/or space launch base facilities and their related infrastructures
  • Experience in the civil/structural design and construction of complex, large-scale underground facilities.
  • Construction field experience.
  • Experience preparing structural/forensic engineering investigations, studies, and reports.
  • Current TS/SCI security clearance which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.

The grade-based pay range for this job is listed below. Individual salaries within that range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge and skills.
