Role and Responsibilities:
The Lead Custodian will be responsible for assisting with the supervision of the custodial crew; which is primarily composed of individuals with disabilities and disabling conditions, and performing custodial duties.

    • Act as a leader amongst the custodial staff, and provide guidance when needed
    • Responsible for the collection of recycle bins located throughout the facility and distributed to the recycling center
    • Use customer service skills, to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, officials and all members of the public.
    • Coordinates work schedules to ensure timely and effective completion of the maintenance and care of the buildings and offices
    • Assist with the ordering of inventory for the facility
    • Maintain storage areas and cleaning equipment, materials and supplies in a safe and orderly manner in order to ensure the safety of staff and the public
    • Trains, supervises and evaluates assigned custodial staff
    • Trains staff in proper chemical and equipment usage and maintenance
    • Opens and closes locks and unlocks facilities as needed
    • Keeps records of work completed
    • Clean offices, meeting chambers and recreational facilities
    • Mop tile and concrete floor areas
    • Vacuum all carpeted areas
    • Dust all furniture and fixtures as required
    • Wash and disinfect all washroom floors, toilets, toilet seats, hand dryers and fixtures
    • Clean all mirrors
    • Replenish toilet tissue and soap as needed
    • Empty all waste baskets and garbage cans
    • Place garbage in outside storage bin
    • Clean entrance and exit including glass, doors and hardware
    • Keep outside area near exit and entrance clear of snow, cans, paper, etc.
    • Clean, wash and disinfect drinking fountains
    • Wash all finger marks from walls, doors, hardware and glass
    • Clean break room sinks and counters
    • Report damages and acts of vandalism
    • Wash and buff floors with floor polisher
    • Wash entrance and exit floors
    • Clean walls and toilet partitions
    • Secure storage areas
    • Ensure cleaning materials and supplies are stored in a safe and orderly manner
    • Maintain an adequate supply of cleaning materials and supplies
    • Restock materials and supplies
    • Make note of the need for equipment repairs
    • Perform any other duties as assigned


    Education and Experience Requirements:

    • High school diploma and/or GED.
    • Minimum of (2) Two years Custodial or Janitorial experience.
    • Minimum of (1) One year of Supervisory experience.

    Skills & Qualifications:

    • Must possess a strong proficiency in operating custodial equipment.
    • Ability to work directly with disabled individuals.


    Obtaining and maintaining the appropriate Security Clearance is required to access the primary worksite. Obtaining Securing Clearance can be a lengthy process and will be discussed during the initial interview. Everyone is encouraged to apply! CW staff will help throughout the entire process.

    Physical Demands:

    The Lead Custodian is a physically demanding position. While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to reach with hands and arms. The incumbent is frequently required use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects tools or controls. The incumbent must spend the entire time at work standing, walking, lifting heavy objects, operating medium-weight cleaning equipment such as floor buffers, sweeping and mopping floors and moving desks and furniture. The incumbent is required to do a great deal of stretching and bending, often in awkward positions. Note: Operating floor polishers and waxers are particularly hard on back muscles. The incumbent must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 70 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
