Job Description

ERT, Inc. is seeking a Community Engagement Specialist to support the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Office of Habitat Conservation (OHC) and the Damage Assessment Remediation and Restoration Program (DARRP) in developing and executing community engagement strategies and models related to Environmental Justice and equity concerns for Natural Resource Damage Assessment (NRDA) cases. Work is headquartered at NOAA's Silver Spring facility but may be performed remotely anywhere within the United States. Duties include:

  • Coordinate the development and execution of a community engagement strategy for apriority Natural Resource Damage Assessment (NRDA) case or cases
  • Advise on community engagement practices that would facilitate the achievement of case goals for NRDA teams and establish a community of practice around engagement, specifically related to environmental justice and equity issues.
  • Develop lessons learned and recommendations to management for improving community
    engagement in NOAA's NRDA work.

Required Skills

A minimum of 8 years' of relevant experience to include the following:

  • Strong written and oral communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience working directly with tribal and/or underserved communities
  • Familiarity with natural resource management and environmental issues
  • Experience developing and maintaining partnerships and working relationships
  • Strong organizational skills, and ability to handle multiple, concurrent, and competing projects and responsibilities
  • Experience working successfully in teams
  • Ability to work independently, reliable, self-starter, self-motivated, and strong attention to detail

Desired

  • Previous community engagement experience in one of more of the following regions: New York metropolitan area; Brunswick, GA; Seattle, WA; Wilmington, NC; or coastal Louisiana
  • Familiarity with White House Executive Orders (EOs), statutes, regulations, guidance, and official policies, particularly those with EEJ provisions
  • Familiarity with the Oil Pollution Act, the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act, the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act, and the Endangered Species Act

Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident (Green card) and be able to pass a background investigation to obtain a security badge to access applicable government systems and facilities.

Education
Master's Degree in Environmental Policy or related discipline, or equivalent.
