Job Summary

Sam Schwartz, at TYLin company, is currently seeking a full time Transportation Planner for our Washington, D.C. office to be part of a dynamic team that provides a range of planning services for clients, including corridor studies, safety analysis and planning, transit planning, strategic planning, community-wide multi-modal transportation plans, and complete streets concept development. The planner will be part of a cross-disciplinary team of consultants covering planning, urban design, and transportation engineering, and contribute to a wide variety of activities to support projects including technical analysis; public and stakeholder outreach; and development of maps, reports, presentations, and graphics.

Ideal candidates must be self-sufficient, collaborative, organized, and have the ability to communicate concepts clearly and concisely through writing and graphical representation.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

In this position, the successful candidate will support a wide range of projects by performing various tasks including:

  • Planning-level transportation analyses
  • Preparation of supportive meeting materials and follow-up documentation
  • Conducting site visits and field observations,
  • Performing data analyses using GIS and spreadsheet-based models,
  • Preparing high-quality graphics,
  • Writing technical reports,
  • Developing presentation materials,
  • Preparing conceptual designs of proposed projects.

Skills and Qualifications

Ideal candidates will possess the following qualities:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to develop high-quality graphics to support communications materials
  • Strong command of multi-modal transportation and urban planning concepts
  • Command of technical analysis supporting transportation decisions
  • Proficiency in using spreadsheets to interpret dataand conduct complex analysis
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite required
  • Proficiency in GIS and analysis add-ons, such as Network Analyst and Spatial Analyst, required
  • Proficiency in Google SketchUp or other graphics software preferred
  • Flexibility to work on-site and non-standard business hours occasionally

Requirements

Candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Masters in urban planning, transportation engineering, or equivalent degree
  • 1-3 years of experience
