Description Columbia Bank's Specialty Lending Group is a small team of seasoned commercial lenders with expertise in specialized industries and credits including media/communications, transportation, and mezzanine (subordinated) debt. The Specialty Lending Group is also responsible for the Bank's Syndication and Agency Management function, whereby Columbia Bank acts as the agent and/or participant bank in multi-bank deals.

The Specialty Lending intern will have exposure to and responsibility for providing assistance and support to the Specialty Lending team by performing analysis on financial statements. Interns will also gain valuable experience in relationship management, syndication/agency management, and customer interaction through assisting our team in the day-to-day management of complex commercial relationships.

The Specialty Lending intern will have exposure to and responsibility for providing assistance and support to the Specialty Lending team by performing analysis on financial statements. Interns will also gain valuable experience in relationship management, syndication/agency management, and customer interaction through assisting our team in the day-to-day management of complex commercial relationships.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Credit & Financial Analysis:
    • Researches client banking relationships and credit history
    • Analyzes financial trends (income statements, cash flow, etc.)
    • Appropriately analyzes collateral values
    • Determines strengths and weaknesses of the credit
    • Conducts pricing model to establish profitability
    • Conducts industry research based on various borrowing entities
    • Reviews and maintains commercial credit files for completeness, including: reviewing loan documentation packages, ordering and reviewing credit reports, reviewing preliminary title reports, appraisals, environmental reports, etc.
    • Ensures all files include current financial statements, agency reports, etc.
    • Maintains a current knowledge of banking/financial terminology and regulations
    • Participates in training opportunities as presented

  • Agency/Syndication Management:
    • Provides analytical and administrative support for the Syndicated Loan Portfolio and Agency Management functions, including dissemination of information to participant banks, coordinating credit actions and amendments, facilitating loan funding and booking, and performing credit analysis on syndicated credits.
    • Assists with the quarterly Syndicated Loan Portfolio data analysis and reporting to Executive Management

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Power Point, etc.)
  • General understanding of financial accounting and data analysis as it relates to banking
  • Ability to work independently
  • Superior interpersonal skills and high level of customer service
  • Currently enrolled in college or graduate level courses and pursuing a business-related degree, preferably accounting or finance, or recently graduated in 2021
  • Commit to 10+ weeks of full time work during the summer.
  • Must provide own living arrangements and transportation
