INTRODUCTION

  • Certified Pesticide Applicator (TECQ)
  • This position is located in Washington, DC, at the Kennedy Center
  • Working Hours are 7:00 am - 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday.
  • This position requires a valid driver's license, and driving records check
  • Pre-employment complete criminal history background checks must obtain and maintain a government security clearance as required per the contract, and drug testing is required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • This is a working supervisor position that coordinates, supervises, and trains all landscaping/grounds team members at the contracted site location.
  • Provide routine care of lawns, shrubbery, trees, walks, parking areas, and fence lines
  • Prepares schedules for cutting, fertilizing, liming, seeding, and applying herbicides, pruning, etc
  • Observe and report any signs of abnormal development in lawns, shrubs, trees, etc., and recommend improvements as needed
  • Ensure crew and staff timesheet accuracy and timeliness. Review and initial or sign timesheets, ensure proper use of leave. Authorize overtime with the approval of the landscaping department project manager
  • Ensure completion and compliance with all other administrative paperwork and procedures, as required, to include security measures. Perform duties in conformance with any safety rules, regulations, or procedures given in writing or orally
  • Act as the first contact in case of an emergency, accident, incident, or worker problem at the contract site. Provide initial investigation and report to Operations. Ensure accuracy and timeliness of contact sheets, incident reports, accident reports, workers' compensation forms, and any other required reports or records
  • Maintains daily records of security, proper use of supplies, equipment, and vehicles as part of the regularly scheduled inspection process
  • Attend meetings, inservice, and conferences as required to keep abreast of the landscape industry and to enhance management skills
  • Other duties as assigned

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

  • The Site Supervisor will supervise the entire landscaping/ground team at the contracted site location

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

  • The Landscape Project Manager supervises the incumbent.

PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • The incumbent must stand/walk 95% of the work time and sit 5% to inspect grounds properly, check equipment, and complete paperwork and grounds tasks, such as pruning, spraying, and riding mowers.
  • They must be able to lift/carry 60 pounds and push/pull 100 pounds, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach and handle, all requirements necessary for loading and unloading materials and equipment, and planting, cutting trees, and pruning.
  • They must be alert to safety hazards and have a method of communicating, so those around can respond and understand
  • Must possess good vision and hearing, as this is necessary to drive equipment, inspect grounds work and perform grounds tasks
  • Mainly work outside
  • Working conditions are subject to extreme temperature and weather conditions.
  • Work conditions may be inconvenienced by dust, dirt, fumes, or flying objects (grass).

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Three (3) years landscaping supervisory experience
  • Eight (8) years of progressive experience in grounds work, horticultural skills, and relevant equipment knowledge are required.
  • A Certified Pesticide Applicator is required.
  • Must be able to pass security clearance
  • Must be able to work assigned contract hours. Overtime may be required.
  • Clean driving record and valid license required.
  • Prior experience with adults with differing abilities is desirable.
