What does a great Senior Big Data Engineer I do?

Travelport's Data Engineers are tasked with developing infrastructure and systems that realize the business value of the Data Science AI/ML models. Travelport has sophisticated Data Platforms in the cloud and on premise. We have Big Data, processing Terabytes of data, processing billions of transactions per day, and applications which process 100k+ transactions per second on average. As a Senior Data Engineer, you will create and lead the creation of frameworks and architectures for system integration, data pipelines, model generation pipelines, and more. You will also develop streaming and batch data products. Responsibilities include:

  • 4+ years of software development experience with a successful record of developing and deploying quality software products.
  • 2+ years of Scala or Java development
  • Experience developing applications, web applications, and web services.
  • Experience designing modern, responsive web-based user interfaces.
  • Knowledge of web services (Examples: Microservices, RESTful web services, XML, JSON).
  • Knowledge of SQL and relational databases (Examples: Oracle, MySQL, Amazon Aurora) and/or data warehouses (Examples: Redshift, Athena, Snowflake).
  • Experience working with one or more AWS cloud services (EKS, EC2, RDS, Lambda, Elastic Beanstalk, QuickSight).
  • Experience working with Kubernetes based deploys
  • Practiced DevOps implementation (CI/CD, Azure DevOps, Automation, Telemetry).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills with emphasis on the ability to collaborate while working remotely.

It would be advantageous if you have some experience with:

  • Apache Spark for large-scale data processing
  • Terraform for creating infrastructure
  • Understand Git (e.g. Github, Bitbucket, Azure DevOps), managing branches, pull request, and common workflows
  • Familiarity with CI/CD strategies & technologies (e.g. Jenkins, GitHub Actions).
  • Experience with container and container management (e.g. Dockers, Kubernetes).
  • Good knowledge of Cloud Platforms
  • Knowledge of Web Security
  • JSON/REST Services
  • Application containerization and container management
  • CI/CD concepts and processes
  • Linux Environments

Salary Target/Range: $135,000 - $145,000

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
