Summary of Position

The EHS Intern will conduct a biological material inventory and facilitate the harmonization of information within the existing chemical inventory and SDS database management systems. The EHS Intern will use the information within these inventories to ensure that entry signs, hazard storage cabinets, and PPE Assessments are in compliance with Hazard Communication regulations.

Responsibilities and Job Duties

  • Conduct an inventory of all biological agents. This work will involve creating and distributing an inventory questionnaire (using the Forms app), gathering data from multiple source laboratory personnel and potentially multiple applications, and entering it into an appropriate database application.
  • Harmonize the SDS database with the chemical inventory, ensure locations are updated, archive dormant hazardous material SDS, ensure the latest SDS version is available, and provide GHS Label information for all SDS.
  • Using the chemical and biological inventories, update the entry sign templates, hazard storage cabinet labeling, and review the PPE Hazard Assessments for hazardous material gaps and updates as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education, Certifications & Experience

  • Rising college sophomore pursuing a degree in biological, chemical, or environmental sciences, or occupational safety

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must be proficient in Excel, Outlook, Adobe, and Word
  • Must be able to quickly navigate and become proficient using new applications
  • Must have good written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Interest in pursuing a career in worker health and safety and/or environmental sciences
