About the Position

Dexis seeks an experienced Editor/Writer to support the Department of Labor (DOL) Office of Apprenticeship (OA) on the Expansion Support for Registered Apprenticeship (EESRA) services contract opportunity. The Editor/ Writer will provide editorial and writing support to ensure all reports produced under this project are easy to understand, free of errors, and have adequate and appropriate data visualizations.

The work for this position is contingent upon award.

Responsibilities
  • Provide editorial and writing support, including revisions for grammar, structure, tone, voice, and plain language.
  • Collaborate with technical and subject matter experts when appropriate.
  • Writing, editing, and proofreading Technical Assistance (TA) products, ensuring final products meet certain content standards.
  • Ensure all deliverables intended for dissemination to Employment and Training Administration (ETA)/OA are in "plain language," "post-ready," "editable electronic," and "508 compliant" format as requested by OA Point of Contact (POC) on or before an OA-specified due date.
  • Assist in creating resources to be used by State Apprenticeship Agencies (SAAs) and other National Apprenticeship System (NAS) partners for strengthening EEO within individual Registered Apprenticeship (RA) programs and the Apprenticeship system.
  • Support the team developing a variety of materials and resources for increasing Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) across RA, such as universal outreach tool strategies, outreach and recruitments strategies, fact sheets and information on DEIA trends and promising practices. These materials should build on, leverage, and/or align DEIA materials produced with OA's DEIA RA TA Center to ensure alignment without duplication. Materials include:
    • A concept paper on options for establishing national RA scholarships program for 2- and 4-year minority colleges.
    • A pilot National RA Scholarship program-which would include an employer covering costs for on-the-job training, tuition, books, tools, and resources to overcome barriers to employment, and support retention of apprentices from under-representative populations - and recruit and work with RA sponsors and 2- and 4-year minority colleges to implement this pilot with at least 10 employers.
    • Resource guide that highlights the wide range of careers,including those that do not necessarily require a college degree, the qualifications required, available education pathways, and the earnings potential for a variety of occupations in various industries.
  • Plan and formulate policies, programs, and procedures governing information dissemination within DOL.
  • Edit and revise material before publication and determine the readiness of written material for public release. Obtain appropriate DOL approvals.
  • Examine reports, documents, correspondence, memoranda, and other material submitted by members of the office for completeness and conformity to DOL internal and external standards.
  • Drafts a range of communications materials for various audiences and purposes, often on short deadlines.
  • Works cooperatively and collaboratively across Agency bureaus and missions to produce, track, and/or distribute communications products.
Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree in graphic design or a related field.
  • A minimum of 7 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience with government reporting.
  • Ability to gather, analyze, write, and create original descriptive copy as assigned.
  • Proven ability to translate technical information into clear, readable materials.
  • Ability to support internal/external communication and concisely summarize information.
  • Strong verbal and written skills.
  • Ability to work closely with team, and produce high quality, low-error, professional informational materials.
  • Knowledge of proper grammar, style, tone and consistency.
  • Detail oriented and committed to excellence.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to support multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast paced, highly energetic atmosphere.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience writing new articles, creating website content, social media support.
  • Experience developing short reporting materials such as one-pagers in platforms such as Canva, Adobe, or MS Suite.
  • Experience in or interest in learning to use video editing platforms such as Camtasia.
  • Eagerness to learn and grow in the role, particularly through demonstrated ambition to learn new skillsets and apply newly acquired project information to the role as described.
  • Experience with Microsoft's Power BI.
  • Experience in ghostwriting.
  • Experience supporting the U.S. Department of State, Department of Justice, USAID or other similar government partners.
