The Medical unit has 36 comfortably appointed, private inpatient rooms. The unit includes a relaxation room for staff in addition to a staff locker/break room. The Director Clinical Inpatient Unit oversees assigned unit to ensure it is performing effectively, which may include but not limited to, preparing and implementing business strategy to achieve the organization's goals, ensuring legal compliance, communicating and collaborating with stakeholders, managing employment decisions and contributions of supporting team members, and managing departmental budget and fiscal success. Serves as a primary liaison and information resource for assigned unit. Oversees the provision of therapeutic care in a holistic and evidence-based environment, which produces excellent patient care with optimal patient outcomes.


Job Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates leadership traits and supporting behavioral competencies.
  • Manages clinical and non-clinical staff including day to day supervision, team member relations and staff development.
  • Creates, in conjunction with supervisor, a self-development plan related to professional goals. Ensures demonstrated continued competence.
  • Serves as a primary liaison and information resource for unit. Oversees the provision of therapeutic care in a holistic and evidence-based environment which produces excellent patient care with optimal patient outcomes.
  • Serves as physician liaison and primary information resource/contact for the unit. Ensures compliance with the unit plan for physician satisfaction.
  • Ensures use of guidelines, standards and evidence-based practice in care delivery, producing quality patient outcomes and a safe patient environment.
  • Demonstrates sound operational skills by ensuring 24 hour coverage for the unit(s), maintaining and monitoring budgetary standards and utilizing resources effectively and appropriately.
  • Monitors patient/physician satisfaction and seeks ways to improve by ensuring continuous implementation of evidence-based practices to include, but not limited to, discharge phone calls, leadership rounding (patients, physicians and internal customers), AIDET and HML conversations.

    Additional Requirements:

Experience: One year of leadership experience and two years of acute care nursing experience. Leadership experience may include RN Unit Supervisor Role, dedicated charge nurse or Assistant Nurse Manager or equivalent role.

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN)

Licensure: Licensed in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Registered Nurse or compact license. Proof required within 30 days of hire.

Certification: BLS (AHA) American Heart Association. ACLS required for Emergency Department, Critical Care and Procedural areas. Specialty Certification in area related to unit's clinical scope, or in Nursing Administration.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs): Proven leadership skills, effective communication skills. Patient focus and effective assessment, evaluation, and resolution skills.
