The R&D Product Chemistry group serves the Global Haleon organization by providing a multitude of characterization techniques in the early phase of the product development process. Here our goal is to understand the link between our product chemistry and product performance, thereby addressing unexpected technical issue that may arise. More than just pre-formulation studies, we bring knowledge of our product chemistry forward to substantiate marketing claims, support intellectual property and enrich the pipeline with next generation product development options.

The Sr. Scientist, will lead Mass Spectrometry analysis within our R&D Product Chemistry Group. This pivotal role will shape the future of our methodologies, influence capital investments, and drive innovation through strategic partnerships with cross-functional teams. The successful candidate will spend 90% of their time conducting experiments, analyzing data, and communicating results, with the remaining 10% dedicated to advancing our characterization capabilities.

Role Responsibilities

  • Lead the way of working for Mass Spectrometry analysis in the R&D Product Chemistry Group. This entails impact on capital purchases, strategic outlook of future allied techniques to enhance methodologies and on-going training of junior level scientists

  • Partner productively with cross-functional team members and advise on mass spectrometry techniques of analysis best suited for issue

  • Provide specialized technical guidance in the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of mass spectrometry instrumentation, including LC-MS (triple quadrupole detector and time of flight detector).

  • The candidate will spend 90% of their time in the laboratory conducting experiments, analysing data and communicating results with the remainder time contributing to the strategic direction of building new characterization capabilities

  • Serve as the subject matter expert in Mass Spectrometry methods including its use in structure elucidation and quantitative analysis activities

  • Serve as the technical-drive behind structure elucidation of unknowns

  • Serve as the technical-drive behind quantitative analysis activities

  • Provide expert insights on allied techniques such as NMR and FTIR spectroscopy, enhancing our analytical capabilities.

  • Apply organic synthetic mechanism knowledge to the interpretation of data

  • Contribute to the preparation and dissemination of research proposals, publications, and presentations of business approved work for internal and external audiences

Why you?

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS in Analytical Chemistry, Material Science or related course of study with 10 years of relevant experience working with Mass Spectrometry analysis in a lab setting; or

  • MS in Analytical Chemistry, Material Science or related course of study with 7 years of relevant experience working with Mass Spectrometry analysis in a lab setting; or

  • Ph.D in Analytical Chemistry, Material Science or related course of study with 5 years of relevant experience working with Mass Spectrometry analysis in a lab setting.

  • Have a working knowledge of cGXP requirements and site policies & procedures.

  • Strong analytical chemistry background

  • Ability to think critically and problem solve

  • Demonstrated knowledge of quantitative MS analysis using MRM methodologies

  • Ability to troubleshoot mass spectrometry instrumentation when needed.
